Marr needs little introduction. Born in Milwaukee, his parents sent their talented son to Germany to study art in 1875. His discipline had him figure drawing every day, and eventually he became a teacher at the RoyalAcademy in Munich. Among his many honors were an honorary Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, Knighthood bestowed by the King of Bavaria, and many gold medals for his paintings.
