INFERNO
October 16-31, 2009
DeLind Gallery of Fine Art is going to HELL!
Susan Timm's new oil painting show, INFERNO, merrily guides us across the River Styx for an up close and personal glimpse, much as the poet Virgil guided Dante as he wrote about the "poetic justice" meted out to residents there...quite often acquaintances of Dante.
Dante Alighieri's epic poem, The Divine Comedy written in the early 14th century is divided into 3 "canticas" or sections: Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise. Susan Timm's featured paintings take us on a visual tour of Dante's 9 rings of hell, INFERNO.
Timm is a M.F.A. graduate from the University of Iowa, and has participated in exhibitions in Europe and America. From her studio in Wisconsin, Timm is one of the latest of many artists illustrating Dante's narrative. Other notable contemporary depictions come from Salvador Dali and Leonard Baskin.
Complimenting Timm's paintings are bronze and wood sculptures of human struggles as told in mystical tales and ancient myths by Adam Caleb Buth. (M.F.A., East Carolina University.
Enjoy your visit to HELL with Susan Timm's INFERNO. Opening October 16 (gallery night) through Halloween, October 31, 2009. In the Divine Comedy, Dante had Virgil as his guide. On gallery night, YOU will be guided through the nine rings of hell...the INFERNO, by the artist, Susan Timm.
