Gerrit Willemsz de Wet (Dutch, 1616-1674)
Christ's Entry Into Jerusualem

He was a noted early pupil, follower and stylistic imitator of his teacher, Rembrandt Van Rijn. Known for his religious subjects, you will find his paintings in museums around the world.
In this painting, we see the large crowd waiving palm fronds, heralding Jesus' entry into Jerusalem astride a donkey. Looking closely at the faces in the crowd, you can pick out the likeness of Rembrandt and his wife Saskia.
